UPDATE 9.1.26 - Victoria was released from the hospital. She needs consistent care, so is staying in the home of a friend who wil help her with her medications, doctor appointments, and rehabilitation. There is still a long road ahead. Victoria cannot yet stand or walk and will need significant therapy to regain her strength and independence. Her biggest medical concern right now is her sodium level, which has been difficult to stabilize. If it drops too low, it can cause seizures and other serious complications. We have also been unable to find a medication that is best used to treat it.
We are incredibly thankful for her mentor family, our staff, and her friends who have helped with visits, medications, talking with doctors, and making sure Victoria has what she needs. The public healthcare system in Peru is very different from what many of us know in the U.S., and her continued recovery will require follow-up with several doctors and extensive therapy. Your donations are helping us provide that care privately and give Victoria the best opportunity for a full recovery.
And perhaps one of the most beautiful parts of this journey is what God is doing in Victoria’s heart. We have been able to tell her that she does not need to worry about the cost of her recovery and that people all over the world have been praying for her. She knows that God saved her and has developed a renewed desire to grow spiritually.

UPDATE 8.25.26 - We have wonderful news about Victoria! She has come out of her coma and is now responsive. She has been awake and talking, and she recognized our staff and friends. She is alert and showing no apparent signs of memory loss or brain damage at this time.
Another very encouraging step is that Victoria has been taken off the ventilator and is breathing on her own.
We are incredibly grateful for these signs of progress and for everyone who has been praying, giving, and supporting Victoria's recovery. We are continuing to work toward transferring her out of the ICU and into a local hospital, where she can continue her recovery and rehabilitation.

On August 11, a graduate from our program, Victoria Rodríguez Loyola, was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Trujillo, Peru. The impact caused a severe traumatic brain injury, including a fractured skull, internal bleeding, and multiple hematomas.
Victoria is currently in the ICU and on a ventilator. Doctors have also discovered a blood clot in her lung. Her condition remains critical, and she may face a month or more of hospitalization followed by a long period of rehabilitation.
Victoria is part of the Luz de Vida family, and we are committed to walking beside her through this difficult journey.
Her medical expenses have already reached approximately S/ 18,000 (about $5,000 USD), including ICU care, medications, and medical supplies not covered by insurance. These costs will continue to increase as she receives the care she needs.
We are asking our community to come alongside Victoria through prayer and financial support.
Above all, we are trusting God for Victoria's life and recovery. We believe He is present in this crisis and will provide the doctors, resources, strength, and people she needs along the way.
